Beacon is a destination for day trippers from New York City. Our town has fantastic dining, beautiful nature, a world-renowned art museum, and tons of history. You should have no trouble filling your weekend.
Our favorite restaurants in Beacon are MoMo Valley Himalayan, Quinn’s Rest & Rant (Japanese, Vegan & Vegetarian Options), Yankee Clipper Diner, and Meyer’s Old Dutch. The Wild and Lyonshare are great places for dinner & drinks. Denning’s Point Distillery & Hudson Valley Brewery are our favorite spots for drinks in town. Towne Crier has live music almost every night along with great food, drinks, and excellent desserts. For a sweet treat, try Ron’s Ice Cream, Beacon Creamery, or Hakan Chocolatier. Hakan also has coffee, as does Trax, Kitchen & Coffee, and Beacon Coffee Company.
If you feel like stretching your legs, we have Hudson Highlands State Park just outside the city. You can hike the short but challenging Casino Trail to the peak of South Beacon Mountain, where a casino used to stand. The ruined powerhouse for the inclined railway and the foundation of the casino can still be seen at the top. From the casino, it is a short hike to the Mount Beacon firetower & the rest of the Hudson Highlands trail system. You could also take a quick trip to Cold Spring to access Breakneck Ridge, although the main trailheads to access that peak will be closed.
